What’s the difference between 304 and 316 grade stainless?
304 stainless is a common commercial grade stainless which is suitable in the food industry for typical items like water, dairy, alcohol, food products, oils and extracts. 316 stainless steel is a higher quality metal used in laboratories, heat exchangers, chemical containers and medical environments where chemicals, bleach, high salt content and pharmaceuticals products are often used. 316 grade stainless steel has a superior corrosion resistance and can withstand harsher environments over a longer period.
How come some stainless steel is shiny and some is not?
There are various grades and finishes of stainless steel in which each type produces a different look. 2B finish is a cold roll product has a different finish type and may contain microscopic pits and scratches. This has a smooth reflective sheen to it. Number 4 finish is your typical shiny stainless steel finish you see on your food grade quality products. The finishing process of the metal goes through a higher abrasive grit to get a finer more reflective look to the metal.
